New GOOD Music Wednesday
I know you've been wondering. Where is Nick Diamonds? Where is J'aime? Montreal? LA? NYC? Since winning the hearts of the masses as two/thirds of the French Canadian band the Unicorns, the pair have been busy traveling around this country and theirs working on various musical projects— including a brand new fantastique pop group called Islands.
Diamonds describes his group's new music as "F-14 tomcat blah, blah," which is really French-Canadian slang for fiery, shiny and shimmering madcap pop. Really though, it's wonderful stuff and I couldn't be happier to be the first kid on the block to bring it to you.
This time out, you can take a little piece of the music home with you, so follow the blue to download "Flesh" and "Abominable Snow" from Montreal's (and now your) very own, Islands.
Like last time, feel free to link up to these nuggets, but be a (non-gender specific) dude and give credit where it's due.

Cheers. Although i've Abominable Snowman before. Meh.

"Abominable Snowman" was much better as a more-rocky Unicorns song done at one of those radio sessions.
"Flesh"... the intro reminds me some of No-Wave (which I like) but the song doesn't really go anywhere. I hope that they get their shit together. :(

OMFG!!!! seriously, you don't know the good you've made to the entire planet for breaking out these news!!!
the unicorns are (were) my favorite band since the first time i've heard their album, and i was longing for new stuff from them....
...and "islands" is really amazing!! i guess those two tracks come from a complete album, don't they? (after all, the mp3s are labeled 3/12 and 5/12...so... may i ask....
when?
i hope soon, and on alien8recordings, so i can order it from here (i live in brazil and work on a record store).
anyway, what i've meant to say is, thanks, you've made my day...

i don't understand why every montreal band is refered too as being french canadian when the bulk of the music scene here is anglo.
montreal is a city of 3 million people and according to the canadian census bureau , in 2001 there were 750 000 non-french speakers living in montreal.

Nick and Jaime are recording the proper Islands album as we speak. It's also supposed to feature Richard Parry and Tim Kingsbury from the Arcade Fire.
Also of interest is the "Do They Know It's Halloween?" benefit single Nick and Jaime are coordinating which will feature the Arcade Fire, Beck, Thurston Moore, Karen O, Spike Jones, David Cross, and whole whack of other people.
You can find more about all this at the Pop Montreal site, and my blog.
Alden is also making some beautiful music right now. Think French new wave film instrumental soundtrack stuff. As far as I know the only thing he's put out is a little self-released 7" that I reviewed a coupled months ago.

Yeah I don't know about islands
Do they know it's Halloween sounds great but the vocals on abominable snowman from Islands sounds a little strange

It works since the Unicorns are gone. Not as good, but still a nice sound.

Good fucking lord, this is quite possibly the best news I've heard in a long while. Thanks, so, so much. And yeah, I've been sifting through a bunch of stuff, trying to find Th'Corn Gangg stuff, and am turning up with nothing. Where, oh where can I fill this void?
