Lupine Luv

Wolfparade1

Many moons ago, some gracious guides took me by the hand and introduced me to Wolf Parade, who just happened to playing a house party the night I was up North. My first impression of them was that they were nervous lads who wrote nervous rock and had a penchant for Social D. This, and the fact that they had a theremin, won big points with me. A few months after that gig, they mailed me a 3 inch CD demo (thought to be lost) that included a few new tunes, one of which was "Modern World", a largely electronic composition with queasy and uneasy keyboard lines and a simple yet devastating vocal hook—"I'm not in love with the modern world." True that, brothers. The song has since been reworked for their forthcoming LP to give it a more melodic sheen, with the 'lectro being subbed out for more trad rock instrumentation (the acoustic guitar interlude on the new one is particularly beau.) While you have to wait a few weeks to check on the update, I wanted to share the OG version simply because a. I'm psyched to have dug up that demo and b. this song is brillz mcgrillz. Hope you think so too.

Click here to check out "Modern World" from Wolf Parade's 2004 demo. Yeah!
