Austin: Day III Evening

Diesel1

Diesel2

Diesel3

After a light dinner (I was following the old Miles Davis "eating just slows you down when you have things to do" adage) I hit up the Diesel U Music party to see Illinois. Like always, the Diesel party was held at this Granger Hall-type place just off the main strip, which was just about the most perfect venue for watching the country-tinged indie stylings of Illinois. I'd been meaning to see them for a while, so I'm glad I had the chance to catch them at spot that had good sound. The band sounded really full and just sorta took over the room when they played. Not even free cocktails could take me away. Well done.

Vietnam

Royal1

After leaving the U Music jam, my mates and I made a mad dash to another Diesel Party (this time w/ Nylon and Royal Elastics, hence the hanging shoes) to try and see Simple Mission hermanos Vietnam. We arrived just in time to miss their set, but I wound up spending some QT with the boys and scamming a 45-minute with them for Nylon's Web TV station. The band told Nylon (who were very nice and patient) that I was their Andrew Loog Oldham and that they needed me in the room to field questions and help direct the conversation. That made me blush.  Look for the interview to drop sometime later this month.

Dr3

After I was done (metaphorically) chopping it up with Vtnm, Data Rock came on and just tore shit up. When they played "Fa Fa Fa" the kids went nuts.

Boldshirt

Their roadie was wearing a Bold shirt. That, plus the pants that said Data Rock pretty much topped any other outfits I saw that night. Which is saying a lot when you are at a Nylon party.

Diplo

Somehow made it back to town to catch Diplo and Switch DJ at some totally corny club off of Congress. By this time, it was about 2:30 AM and Switch was totally Switch-faced on the sauce. Wes had to wake him up from the couch he passed out on to get him to come to the booth. Bummer, because I was really, really super looking forward to hearing him spin.

Forunately, Diplo came to the rescue with a fan favorites set for the fifty or so people who were in the room. He was just like "I'm gonna play Justice Vs. Simian and my own Hot Chip edits and sprinkle in some House Of Pain." Diplo just kills it no matter how big/small, cool/lame the crowd is. He doesn't care who's there, he just wants to make them dance. I really respect that. So does my friend Joseph (pictured below)

Jazzdilpo

After seeing Dips, we tried to see Albert Hammond at Blender's space. But the line was too long and too douchey so I packed it up and went back to my hotel to yell dumb shit at the TV with some of the Rabbits.
