Austin: Day III Early
By Friday morning the FEAR had set in. I'd been sleeping less than four hours a night all week and still had two entire days, nights and early mornings left to conquer. The streets were hazy and my mind was turning into a nicotine cloud. I was disoriented. And maybe a little delusional (well, more than usual at least.)
But then I had some gazpacho and a diet coke and felt much better.
First stop of the day was the Insound party to see Apes and Androids and Black Lips. Apes were suprisingly good. A mix of Queen, Queens Of The Stone Age and sly snyth pop. The keyboard player was dressed like Todd Rundgren circa A Wizard, A True Star and they had these giant inflatable aliens on stage. Very entertaining! Definitely keep an eye on these cats.
Next up were the Black Lips, who were just as fucked up as you would expect them to be. Three songs into their garage-tastic set, the guitarist just straight up projectile vomited on stage and continued to finish playing the song. Some blogger girls with camers who were up front were pretty bummed out. These dudes are the real deal. And their music is pretty rad too. Kinda brilliant. And retarded. But still brilliant.
Here's a photo of the stage post-puke.
And a photo of their guitarist shaking his booty.
